Program Support: Tutoring and Events

Become a tutor or support our youth and family activities to help youth build community and reach their goals.

Friends 193

Thanks to the support of almost a dozen volunteer tutors, Friends of the Children–Seattle is able to provide one-on-one tutoring to nearly 30 youth each quarter. Most tutors work with youth in elementary school and focus on meeting grade-level math and reading requirements. Other tutors have focused on SAT and GED prep with our teens and seniors, helping prepare them for upcoming tests or improve their scores.

Tutors typically work on-site at Friends of the Children–Seattle, though this opportunity is currently virtual. Tutors are expected to commit to a minimum of one academic quarter and have a higher education degree or pursuing a higher education degree.

If you are interested in tutoring, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page and select K-5 Tutoring, Reading Buddy, and/or High School Tutoring.

Family Engagement Events

Volunteer your time and/or resources for Family Engagement Events at Friends of the Children-Seattle! Our events include (but are not limited to):

  • Women of Influence celebration (early May)
  • Family and Friends event (Summer)
  • Legacy and Promotion Celebration (June)
  • Back to School Bash (mid-August)
  • Winter Celebration (early December)

Family Engagement Events at Friends provide special opportunities to build community amongst families and staff, celebrate the various seasons and accomplishments with our families and equip them with necessary supplies for success. For example, putting together pamper kits for the incredible women in our youth's lives, creating 'post-high school' survival kits for program graduates, organizing take-home kits with summer activities for youth to prevent the summer slide, and packing backpacks with needed school supplies for the new school year.

If you are interested in supporting our community in this way, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page and select "Family Engagement Events".
