Congrats to our seniors!
Parent/Guardian: Melvina Smith
Attended: Garfield HS and Seattle Central (running start)
What is one memory with Friends of the Children or with your mentor that stood out to you? One of my many memories that stood out to me would be attending sleepovers and camping trips with the other girls (mentees) and mentors. We would play a bunch of games and one of my favorite ones was sardines. It was a form of hide and seek, but you would hide as group once you found other groups and had to be quiet until the last group found you.
What’s your next chapter in your journey? I will continue to attend Seattle Central until I am able to transfer to a four year college at an HBCU.
Mentor: Nakeya and Sheena
Parent/Guardian: Monique & Charles Taylor
Attended: Lindbergh HS
What is one memory with Friends of the Children or with your mentor that stood out to you? Always working hard with my mentor and hanging out. I remember going camping in a big group that was a lot of fun. I also remember going to a lot of museums when I was younger and volunteering at different organizations.
What’s your next chapter in your journey? My next chapter is to continue with school either at Renton Tech or Green River College and definitely furthering my career with a good paying job.
Mentor: Sheena, Nakeya, and Jasmine
Parent/Guardian: Keila and Derrick Simons
Attended: Summit Sierra High School
What is one memory with Friends of the Children or with your mentor that stood out to you? A memory for us that stands out to me is when we went to ur house and u taught me how to make baked salmon with the mayo and the crunchy unions on top and then we made homemade lemonade😭 and how u were always there for me and that comfortable person for me whenever I would act shy but we both knew I wasn’t shy, and that time we went to the park and u acted like u we’re gonna leave me😂
What’s your next chapter in your journey? My plan is to go to college and pursue a nursing degree and while doing all this I’ll be creating a home studio so I can get serious with my music.
