With the help of her mentor, Taliyah learned to problem solve and build positive relationships.
Taliyah*, a seventh-grader, loves hanging out with her friends, but would lash out at them if they disagreed. Last year, she felt frustrated when some of her peers seemed nervous to talk to her. Her professional mentor Jasmine identified that, despite Taliyah’s friendliness, her communication skills needed some work. By calling out peer interactions that needed improvement, Jasmine helped Taliyah feel comfortable with constructive feedback, and together they came up with methods to communicate with her friends. Now, Taliyah has the tools manage her emotions and have a good time with her friends, even if they don’t always agree.
