Research shows that the single most important factor in overcoming childhood adversity is a long-term, nurturing relationship with a consistent and caring adult. That's why at Friends-Seattle, professional mentors walk alongside youth for 12+ years—creating trust, stability, and a sense of belonging.
Take Kylo*, for example. After experiencing the absence of a parent, Kylo struggled with big emotions and making connections. Through consistent mentorship at Friends-Seattle, Kylo was supported by a mentor who offered consistency, guidance, and care. Together, they practiced skills that helped Kylo feel grounded and confident—at school, on the soccer field, and beyond. National Mentoring Month is a time to celebrate that kind of care that creates safety, lasting guidance, trust, and growth.
