Slalom's Support Reaches Over 180 Families

Learn what drives Slalom to help for 10+ years.

Friends–Seattle professional mentors hand-delivered gifts to over 180 families this winter season.

“Thank you so much for giving us an opportunity to get something for ourselves that we wouldn’t be able to get on our own,” Allie’s* family wrote to the donors who fulfilled her holiday wish lists.

Winter Family Giving is one of the many ways we build community with our youth and families. Mentors collect wish lists from our families and connect them with generous companies and individuals to fulfill them. Often, wish lists include basic necessities and gift items such as clothes, toys and household items as well as gift cards. Allie’s family is currently living in a shelter, so the extra support she receives through Winter Family Giving allows her parents to make the season special for Allie, age 12, and her eleven siblings. Allie’s family asked for gift cards because they “Empower parents to walk into a store and buy something for themselves and their kids,” Allie’s professional mentor Erika said.

For the past ten years, Slalom has been a crucial supporter of our Winter Family Giving program, fulfilling over 50 percent of our family wish lists. Slalom staff member Justin has always driven the U-Haul truck in his Santa hat to drop off gifts for our youth. He loves the incredible feeling of joy every time he opened the truck, overflowing with gifts.

As Slalom has grown as a company, Justin shared with us; it has always been important that they stay true to their core values. Supporting so many of our families is one of the ways they do that. This year, we were honored for Slalom to be our Premier Presenting Sponsor for Winter Family Giving.

“When [companies] like Slalom come in, it provides more families and more caregivers the ability to take care of themselves while still continuing to do what they do best, which is be there for their kids,” Erika explained.

While Allie’s family was one supported by Slalom this season, the other 50 percent of our families' wish lists were covered by individuals and companies like PricewaterhouseCoopers, TruFusion and the Columbia Athletic Club.

We are extremely grateful to all of our generous community of supporters. Every single family who submitted a wish list received gifts for the winter season.
