Our mission at Friends-Seattle is about making a commitment to youth facing the greatest life obstacles and remaining by their side for 12+ years—no matter what. Your support can help us make that commitment to youth like Michael for another year.

Paired with Professional Mentor Darius, together, they've been able to explore opportunities he may otherwise not have had access to. Facing an especially critical year as he's preparing to enter high school, Darius went all out this summer and took Michael to his first Seattle Storm game, took him overnight camping, talked big dreams for the future, and took him to see a movie on a day they got the entire theatre to themselves!

Mentors spend 4 intentional hours with youth every week for 12+ years. That much support creates generational joy that youth carry into adulthood and prevents youth from juvenile justice system involvement, teen parenting, or other lasting consequences.

Whenever you're around Michael, his silliness and joy are contagious. His favorite subject in school is math, which he continues to improve on and feels, "just comes easy sometimes." His big dream is to become an entrepreneur with his love for cars, envisioning himself "selling cars in a huge dealership, all kinds of cars!" With his mentor chiming in how his love for math can support that dream really well.
