MLK Day of Service Closet Organizing

1pm to 3pm, January 20th, Friends Seattle Columbia City Office

Help us organize our Winter Closet this MLK Day of Service! Folks can also drop off lightly used winter clothing and supplies during this event. Join us on Monday, January 20th from 1pm to 3pm at our office in Columbia City (4436 Rainier Ave S STE C, Seattle, WA 98118). Lunch, refreshments, and tickets to the Seattle Aquarium will be provided for all volunteers who attend. Sign up here.

An Evening With Friends Event Support

12pm to 9:30pm (shifts available), March 15th, Seattle Design Center

Friends of the Children is turning 25 this year and we are hosting our annual gala to celebrate! Join us on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Seattle Design Center (5701 6th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108). We require volunteer support between 12 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Each shift will be approx. a 3-hour commitment. Food, refreshments, and T-Mobile Park/Mariners gift cards/tickets will be provided for attending volunteers. Sign up here.

Tutoring

4 to 6pm, Friends Seattle Columbia City Office

Looking for Monday and Thursday tutors, starting February 2025

We're gearing up for the upcoming school year and looking for tutors to work with our youth! Tutors work on-site at our office with a small group of students. Most tutors work with youth in middle school and focus on meeting grade-level math and reading requirements. Other tutors have focused on SAT and GED prep with our teens and seniors, helping prepare them for upcoming tests or improve their scores. Tutors are expected to commit to a minimum of 3 to 9 months of weekly visits. Sign up to tutor here.

Translation and Language Learning Services

Virtual, In-person

We'd love some help translating family documents, event flyers, and resources into Spanish and Farsi. We are also looking for volunteers to host workshops on building beginner-level Spanish language skills. A small stipend may be available for both opportunities.
