Tutoring & Reading Buddies

Thanks to the support of almost a dozen volunteer tutors, Friends of the Children–Seattle is able to provide one-on-one tutoring to nearly 30 youth each quarter. Most tutors work with youth in elementary school and focus on meeting grade-level math and reading requirements. Other tutors have focused on SAT and GED prep with our teens and seniors, helping prepare them for upcoming tests or improve their scores.

Tutors typically work on-site at Friends of the Children–Seattle but sessions may be held at a public setting that is convenient for your small group. Youths must be accompanied by their mentors at all time. Tutors are expected to commit to a minimum of 3 to 9 months of weekly visits and have a higher education degree or pursuing a higher education degree. All volunteers who will have continuous access to youths will also have to undergo a background search that includes fingerprinting.
